Many people may need to make or receive a money transfer or make a payment while on the island.
This is an extremely common financial transaction across the island, even in the smallest towns, so finding a location isn’t very difficult.
These types of transactions are also one of the largest contributors to Jamaica’s GDP, as submitted international money transfers and payments from Jamaicans living abroad are commonplace.
As such, there are a variety of money transfer services for both overseas and local transfers.
Five money transfer service providers in Jamaica
Asking a friend or relative to send you cash from abroad via international wire transfer (through the bank) may take days or at worse, weeks.
You may not have the luxury of time on your side so try a money transfer service. The following agencies have branches island-wide and often additionally offer foreign exchange services.

Documents required to send and receive money in Jamaica
You'll save a lot of time if you carry the correct documents with you to the money transfer or remittance services office. The service agents work by strict rules to reduce incidences of illegal monetary activities.
You'll always need government-issued photo identification (for visitors, your passport or driver's license is accepted). Your work ID will not be accepted.
If you're sending money, you may be asked to complete a form listing the amount being sent, to whom, and the sender's address.
If you're receiving money, you may be asked the amount you're expecting, from whom, the sender's address, as well as your address and the purpose of the funds.
At Western Union, you'll also be required to state the money transfer control number on the transaction.
Be honest and specific in your responses for quicker processing.
